What is Open Pedagogy?
Open pedagogy engages students as creators of knowledge within the classroom setting. Class projects can vary from Wiki sites to textbooks and many other formats! Engaging students in the creation of knowledge and demonstrating their understanding through the act of creation.
Open education offers a platform for marginalized voices to be heard and provides an opportunity to learn from diverse perspectives. Open Pedagogy enables students not only to participate in the creation of knowledge but also to share their experiences and perspectives.
What is this site for?
This site seeks to educate about Open Pedagogy and provide resources and tools for students, librarians and teaching faculty.
Open Pedagogy is a teaching practice that engages students as creators and curators of information. Examples include Wiki sites, Textbooks, and many other projects explored on this site.
Open Pedagogy is different than Open Educational Resources (OER), which are generally created by faculty alone and published under Creative Commons licenses for sharing and remixing. Open Pedagogy involves students in the learning journey. Learn more about OER HERE!

What does Open Pedagogy look like?
Subcultures and Sociology is a Grinnell College pedagogical website created by Professor Ross Haenfler and constructed with the collaboration of Grinnell students. It is a teaching tool, an evolving digital project, and a scholarly resource on the sociology of various subcultures. Visit Subcultures and Sociology.

Social Awareness
Open Pedagogy allows students to not only participate in the creation of knowledge, but to share their experiences and perspectives. Open education provides the opportunity for marginalized voices to be brought forth and present the opportunity to learn from unique perspectives.
As an educational practice, Open Pedagogy can bring authentic representation and experiences when creating a custom educational system. Open pedagogy can also bring more accessibility opportunities when customizing learning approaches and bringing awareness that everyone has different learning paths.
